Didn’t take long for the itinerary to change 😂😂

And there I was thinking we would end up sleeping in this morning…nope. Didn’t happen! The joys of waking up to natural light (dark sky and rain this morning) beaming through the hotel window, reminding you that you don’t have to wake up to an alarm!! BEST FEELING EVER!!!!!!!

Not much of a choice for breakfast, other than scrambled egg and flat sausage on toast, or a bowl full of E numbers! Toast and an apple it is. “An apple” you say…shocking I know that a piece of fruit (solid, not liquid aka wine) should enter my body on day one of this epic adventure! Then begins the 5 hours journey to visit Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory in Vermont.

2 states done so far! We thought traffic was bad in the UK just pootling round Bournemouth but noooooooo! That’s just a “queue.” Traffic is being sat at a standstill on the freeways watching the time on the sat nav go up and up because you haven’t actually hit the speed limit yet! Decided to reverse our itinerary so we didn’t end up doing states twice so we headed to Connecticut.

The plan was to visit Gillette Castle State Park. Only downside was it’s shut Tuesdays and Wednesday. Deja vu of Europe when the first stop was meant to be Pont du Gard and that was also shut 😂 expert planning by yours truly as always!! So we continued into Connecticut and found a cute little town called Mystic! The houses were delightful and we thought we would visit the tourist centre to see where the camp sites were. We couldn’t find any info 🤓 so we will just wing it!

We continued our journey towards Rhode Island but not before tucking into a beaut hotdog from Nathan’s…after all it would be rude not to wouldn’t it?

Delicious! And pretty cheap $16 for that??!! They were selling sandwiches for $7…no wonder people put on weight when they go to America, although I am determined not to!! Drive thru dunkin donuts, fast food at every turning, fast food cheaper than a salad or a sandwich! We continued along i95 to our destination of Newport, Rhode Island. We had to don our walking boots and coats as the weather wasn’t on our side and walked around the cute town confused about whether we were Jay walking or not as we crossed a road in front of the sheriff. They really should make it more clear 😂 luckily he said nothing.

(Eisenhower Park)

Next stop, Fort Adams State Park. CLOSED DUE TO WEATHER!!!! And I thought us brits were wimpy!! Still, we wandered round the bay in the pouring rain and saw the outside of USAs only coastal fort. Luckily there weren’t many cars and Nathan managed to stop by the entrance sign to get a photo with duck! (Keep an eye out for his instagram page, it will be epic!!)

The best road in Newport…Bellevue Avenue! Went and viewed some houses down there today to see which one we can move into…thoughts anyone???

(Chateau-Sur-Mer)(Marble House)(The Breakers)(The Elms)

Beautiful mansions!! The road is full of them not just those mentioned above! Our destination for the evening is Lexington, Massachusetts. Trying to find a hotel to stay in last minute and cheap whilst in the passenger seat proved a bit tougher than normal but I did eventually find one! Bedford Plaza Hotel…looks like we entered the ghetto on the outside but inside there is a swimming pool! Every cloud and all that! 😂

So now we look for somewhere to feast this evening after driving 354 miles through New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts…not bad for day 1 on the road!

Until tomorrow….😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
