As an avid traveller, I have never encountered a problem at the airport or to do with my flights…so why should this trip be any different??Well, when you receive a text from your airline, Norwegian, 3 days before you’re due to depart with them saying that the flight will be operated by a different carrier, Wamos, that clearly means you’re off to a good start!! The reason we booked with Norwegian, is not because they are a fantastic airline, or for their customer service, or because they’re cheap, but because of the snack/wine bar facility on the screen in front of you! I encountered this when flying to New York 2 years ago and found it truly fantastic….all you had to do was choose what you want, swipe your credit card and a few moments later the air hostess would bring all the food and wine you wanted right to your chair!! Exactly what you need on an 8 hour transatlantic flight!

Instead..this time we rock up to the airport to check in, as you can’t check in online due to the airline switch. When we get to the check in desk, they begin to weigh the bags and pointed out that Nathan’s was 1kg over. The woman behind the desk proceeded to tell us to then weigh mine first which was also over. So thinking we had 40kg of luggage between us irrelevant of which bag the weight was in was wrong! I took out my walking boots to add to my sexy attire of knee high flight socks, my orange shorts and a grey top which brought my bag down to 18kg. So by my calculations that meant we had 39kg!! The 1kg cost £9 and then she tried to make Nathan take it to oversized luggage….not going to happen!! £9 for someone who works out a bit more than the other dude down in the luggage room to chuck that extra 1kg on…crazy!!!

Nothing a cheeky Nando’s can’t fix 😊 and maybe a glass of wine! Eventually we begin boarding the plane and seated in row 9 of this ancient made Wamos A330 plane, we were last to board…which means no space in the overhead lockers for our bags 😂 hey ho! Under the seat in front it is! I swear the seats on this plane are tiny as are the aisles. Nathan had the aisle seat constantly getting knocked by the arses of those passing to get to the toilets in front.

A mere 2 hours into the flight, still can’t get the Wamos entertainment app to work, the movie playing is also not working as clearly their wifi signal isn’t working or something and then they bring out dinner! Not great if you’re a mega fussy eater like Nathan haha! It’s ok if you’re me though. Now I do like my wine as everyone knows, however on this flight I wish I was a lager drinker! The question I always look forward to “which drink would you like with your food” to which the standard response of “red wine please” follows. As it did today. I was looking forward to my mini bottle of red and instead I get a mere drop in the bottom of the plastic glass, meanwhile Nathan gets a full can of Heineken!! Savage to say the least!

The movie, X-men days of future past finally begins to play just as the plane settles down and most people want to have a nap 😴 not so great timing! The good part about the flight though was the snack chicken caesar wrap and a salted caramel shortbread biscuit made in Devon…yum!!

So all in all, the flight wasn’t the greatest especially when you have about 50cm of room then the person in front of you as soon as that seatbelt sign goes off pushes their seat straight back 😩 I did offer to swap seats with Nathan several times but he chose to remain squashed haha!!

We landed and managed to get straight through customs as we have had an ESTA before which was really helpful considering it was packed like sardines in the standard queue! Luggage ✅ catch the air train to car rental location ✅ pick up our car 🚗 (a spaceous Hyundai something) ✅ then onto the hotel to crash….

After a few wrong turns and $18.20 in toll charges we have finally made it to the hotel 😴🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Good night everyone from a very sleepy Nathan and Emma
