Sleeping in the car has never really agreed with me on this trip. We had sold our camping items when we encountered the bad weather so the car was our only option on the Saturday night. After being mauled by those bloody mosquitoes, I also woke up at 3am, wide awake which was less than ideal. Despite it not being in the 30 degrees, sleeping in the car was extremely hot overnight!
The plan for today? Drive the 4.5 hours back to Hunter Valley. You’re probably all thinking that we’d already visited lots of the vineyards so why go back? There are soooo many to visit that we hadn’t even scratched the surface in our two previous visits!
Back for a morning visit at the Hunter Valley Distillery, I mean it would be rude not to! A few shots of their wonderful liqueurs and we went on to our next stop.
The Binnorie Dairy was situated atop a hill and allowed the most beautiful views out over the valley! They have cheese and wine tasting here too!
We didn’t stop in many other places and instead headed to our Airbnb situated in Lake Macquarie. On our way we stopped in the town of Kurri Kurri which is known for its 55 murals painted around the town. They describe the history of the region as well as recent events and they hold an annual nostalgia festival.
They are painted everywhere and each one is different. We spent a bit of time wandering round the town snapping photos of them!
It was a very quaint town and only has about 6000 inhabitants! From Kurri Kurri we ventured to Lake Macquarie. The sun was still semi-shining at this point and the lake was just beautiful! The best part? I forgot to take a photo of it! What an idiot!
I did however manage to take a couple from the garden of our apartment. It really was beautiful, not that the photos show that! After cooking some noodles for lunch we sat outside and soaked up some sun before taking a wander down to the waters edge.
The weather for Monday changed dramatically. Rain hammered down all day and lighting lit up the sky! Beautiful to watch but hampered our plans. So, what else was there to do other than plan another adventure and enjoy some face masks?Whilst it wasn’t quite what we had planned, it made for a very relaxing day whilst the rain pelted away outside!
Until next time…
